Settings by platform
| Platform | Ratio | Recommended length | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 9:16, full screen | 15-60 seconds | Hook in the first second |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 15-30 seconds | Subtitles readable with sound off |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16, <60s | <60 seconds | Title visible from the thumbnail |
| 1:1 or 16:9 | 30-90 seconds | Less “generated” tone, more factual |
Safe zones and subtitles
On vertical formats, the app's interface (caption, share buttons, username) systematically covers the bottom third of the screen, and sometimes a strip on the right as well. Keep the main subject and any subtitles above that zone so they stay visible regardless of which platform the video ends up on.
For the full editing and subtitling method, see our guide how to edit and automatically subtitle an AI-generated video.
Frequently asked questions
For TikTok, Reels and Shorts, yes — full-screen vertical is the expected standard. LinkedIn is the main exception, where a square or horizontal format often works better depending on the content's tone.
Avoid the bottom third of the screen, which is usually covered by the app's interface (caption, interaction buttons) — a subtitle centered a bit higher stays readable across every platform.
